The following is quoted from an article in “Light Bites” by Alexandra Roland the July/August 2014 edition of
Fort Lauderdale Magazine.
Less than a year after moving to South Florida from France, Annick Belmonte opened Le Macaron on the east side of the Coral Ridge Mall—just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The cafe menu includes French gelato, chocolates, croissants, coffee and macarons–crisp, airy confections wildly popular in cosmopolitan cities like New York and, naturally Paris.
The gluten-free, meringue-based treats are sold individually for $2.10 or in bulk – from a box of six for $12.60 to 36 for $68.40. And how about these flavors? Basil white chocolate, rose, lavender, black currant and Colombian coffee join the more traditional Madagascar black vanilla and Belgian chocolate.
Belmonte, originally from Nimes France, says she wants to “represent French pastries in the U.S. I opened to bring happiness to others through sweets.” The cafe is part of a franchise and joins 14 other Florida locations.
